Here is what matters: Can I hit what I am aiming at with it?? Does it penetrate well? Does it expand well? How consistent is it. Where is the point of aim with all of the different guns I might carry? Will it cost me an arm and a leg to buy it? Rarely does any ammo chrono or RADAR at the advertised velocity. The ammo makers use a test barrel that locks up like a bank vault. I use a scant few .40s but this stuff flies straight and hits what I aim at hard. After it hits it penetrates and it expands pretty darn well. It doesn't get bent and become unstable when chambering, and it simply does the task for which it was made. If it was stored in a dry environment older ammo used to be a little peppier. If it absorbed any moisture it loses some pep. I am sure that if it was raining when a batch was made that ammo is probably a tad slower than had it been a dry day. I dropped from 180 grain to 165 with .40 S&W because it seems to do a bit more damage than 180 grain. If you want super consistent perfection, load your own ammo. I ordered four boxes and got them from two different lot numbers. So, I had to burn twice as much ammo chronographing the round. One lot averaged 1099 f..p.s, with a low of 1080 f..p.s. The other averaged 1123 f.p.s. with a low of 1103 f.p.s. from the same Glock 22 (4.49 in barrel). Its advertised average velocity is 1140 f.p.s. from a 4 inch barrel. The faster lot is good enough for self-defense but the others are going to be expensive practice ammunition. This not the fault of Target Sports. Unfortunately, most manufacturers load to a safe pressure, not advertised velocity. The shipment was delivered quickly by TS.
