Why Shooters Choose Speer 22 WMR

• Short-Barrel Focus: Speer states this Gold Dot Short Barrel load is optimized for 2-inch barrels, making it purpose-built for compact 22 WMR firearms.
• Defensive Hollow Point: The 40 grain Jacketed Hollow Point is engineered for reliable expansion, a key reason hollow point handgun ammunition is commonly chosen for personal protection.
• Speer Gold Dot Construction: Gold Dot Short Barrel Personal Protection Rimfire is designed to help the 22 WMR cartridge perform as a legitimate self-defense option in compact firearms.
• Verified Ballistics: This load is rated at 1050 fps with 98 ft lbs of muzzle energy, giving shoppers clear factory-stated performance figures for comparison.
• Nickel Plated Brass Case: The Nickel Plated Brass case supports smooth handling and corrosion resistance, practical traits for defensive ammunition that may be carried or stored.
• Bulk-Friendly Packaging: Available as a Box of 50 or Case of 2000, this Speer Gold Dot 22 Mag option works for smaller purchases or case quantities.

What Customers Say

Customer feedback is strong: 4.83 out of 5 across over 170 verified reviews, with over 148 5-star reviews and growing.

I obtained these cartridges to use in my Kel-tec PMR30; a gun that produces notoriously large fireballs. This ammunition decreases the size of those fireballs by more than 50%. For me that makes it a real winner especially in self defense.

Terry K.

I carry these in My S&W Model 351 with CCI's RELIABLE priming, You get Your life on them. The average shooter can accurately place them. Better off to hit an offender with a double tap of these than MISS with larger calibers/weapon.

Mark S.

Ordered this by accident. I don't have anything for this to be used in. That must be a sign that I have to go shopping. So it looks good in the gun case.

Kenneth J.

Is Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 22 WMR the same as Speer Gold Dot 22 Magnum?

Yes, 22 WMR is commonly called 22 Mag or 22 Magnum. This listing is for Speer Gold Dot 22 WMR, not 22LR or another caliber.

What is the muzzle velocity of Speer 22 WMR 40 grain Jacketed Hollow Point?

The factory-listed muzzle velocity is 1050 fps. Muzzle energy is listed at 98 ft lbs.

What does Gold Dot Short Barrel mean on this load?

Speer states this load is optimized for 2-inch barrels. Short-barrel ammunition is generally tuned to perform from compact firearms, where velocity can be lower than from longer barrels.

Is this a self-defense load?

Yes. Speer identifies this 22 WMR Gold Dot Short Barrel load as short barrel personal protection ammunition, with reliable hollow point expansion and consistent penetration depth as stated features.

Would you recommend this for a longer-barrel semi-auto, and what velocity should I expect?

Because firearm designs vary, confirm compatibility with the firearm manufacturer. The only verified velocity here is 1050 fps with 98 ft lbs of muzzle energy, so Target Sports USA would need manufacturer confirmation before giving a reliable answer for a specific barrel.

How is it packaged?

Packaging is listed as Box of 50 or Case of 2000. Choose the format that fits your carry, function-check, or replenishment needs.

About Speer 22 WMR

Speer built this 22 WMR Gold Dot Short Barrel load for short-barrel personal protection, pairing a 40 grain Jacketed Hollow Point with a Nickel Plated Brass case. The bullet design is intended to expand reliably while maintaining the penetration depth Speer associates with stopping a threat.

22 WMR, also called 22 Mag or 22 Magnum, is a rimfire cartridge with more energy potential than smaller rimfire training loads. In this load, the short-barrel optimization is the point: it is meant for compact defensive firearms rather than general range use, though firearm fit and function should always be confirmed.

If you want to keep a compact rimfire ready, this Gold Dot Short Barrel load gives you a focused Speer option in the 22 WMR category. Select a box or case as needed, and consider bulk ammo when you want more of the same load for carry rotation and function checks.
