    Ok, my real world test; this is probably not the best scenario for two legged predators, but I was behind a driver that hit a deer and I had to dispatch the animal to ease its suffering. I had my S&W 442 with a little less than a 2" barrel. A quick head shot took care of the task, but after the traffic cleared, I decided that it was a good opportunity to test s few rounds with the custom 38 XTP 158 grain. Now the 442 was my carry that day. I also keep an older Ruger Service six in a lock box in my truck, so I loaded three rounds of the same ammo type into the Ruger and shot into a different section of the chest, then loaded the carcass in my truck and took it home so that I could recover the rounds and dispose of the deer. The only round that expanded was the head shot. The two additional rounds from the 2" were stopped by opposite ribs without expanding. The 4" Ruger had similar results with one round escaping without hitting any ribs. Again, no expansion. I did too much damage recovering the bullets to give a good assessment on the internal damage, but my opinion is that penetration was very good, expansion sucked, and the 2" vs. 4" barrel length showed very little different in performance.
